IDG’s Top 12 Quirkiest Baseball Team Names With Custom Inflatables Part 2
The Quirkiest Baseball Team Names with Custom Inflatables Part 2
Inflatable Design Group has ranked 12 of the most unusual baseball team names we have worked with to create custom inflatables.
In our previous blog, we discussed teams 12 to 7. Below we have our top 6.
Located in Binghamton, New York, our #6 team was named by a resident during a name-the-team contest. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies won against other names such as Stud Muffins and Rocking Horses. Binghamton is home to 6 of the remaining 150 antique carousels and is known as the ‘Carousel Capital of the World’. The minor league team’s name Rumble Ponies pays homage to these carousels.
Since the Rumble Ponies’ home field does not have one of the town’s antique carousels, the team had to create excitement in other ways. With a customized flat top inflatable designed by IDG, they were able to do just that! Now, game attendees can step up to the plate and practice their pitching with the speed pitch game. Fully customized with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies logo and team colors!
5. Vermont Lake Monsters custom inflatables
Almost everyone has heard about the Loch Ness monster, but have you heard about the lake monster Champ? Champ the lake monster is said to live off the banks of Burlington, Vermont in Lake Champlain. With another name-the-team contest, the colligate summer team went with the Vermont Lake Monsters, an ode to Champ the lake monster.
Will you hit a single, double, or home run? With custom inflatables, Vermont Lake Monsters fans can practice like the pros. The Lake Monsters branded inflatable tee-ball game allows fans to take their chances of knocking one out of the park. The interactive inflatable gently blows air out of an inflatable tee allowing a standard whiffle ball to hover. Fans can then swing for the fences and score depending on which hole they hit into. It is fun for all ages!
Nothing says quirky like Albuquerque. The name Albuquerque Isotopes as a result of yet another name-the-team contest, winning with 67% of the vote. Fans of The Simpsons may remember a 2001 episode where Homer found out the Springfield Isotopes baseball team was moving to Albuquerque. Home to the National Museum of Nuclear History, the team happily embraced the name Albuquerque Isotopes. To pay homage to the show in which their team’s name originated from, their home stadium has statues of Marge, Homer, Bart, and Lisa Simpson.
Fans of all ages love the Albuquerque Isotopes’ friendly alien mascot, Orbit. With custom inflatables, young fans can now bounce in the beloved mascot’s belly!
Inflatable Design Group’s innovative team designed a mascot belly bounce for the team’s fan zone. Kids can enter this huge mascot bounce house through Orbit’s foot and jump around in its belly. IDG can turn any mascot into a fun belly bounce!
3. Rocky Mountain Vibes custom inflatables
We are now in the final three of our list and things are heating up! In third place, we have the Rocky Mountain Vibes. This independent team picked Rocky Mountain Vibes over other name suggestions that included the Happy Campers, Lamb Chops, and Throttle Jockeys. It is said this name was chosen because of the good outdoor vibes the state of Colorado gives.
Giving off good vibes, the Rocky Mountain Vibe’s mascot adds to the quirkiness of this team. The team’s mascot is an anthropomorphic s’more named Toasty. Many people believe that he looks like Guy Fieri. Fans of the team love Toasty. After all, he is a cool dude who is always giving off good vibes at games.
With a custom inflatable designed by Inflatable Design Group, the Rocky Mountain Vibes were about to bring Toasty the s’more to life in a big way. This huge inflatable mascot is a great way to welcome fans into the ballpark and build team spirit. It serves as a great photo op as well!
Our number two spot goes to another pick from a name-that-team contest. Located in Montgomery, Alabama this minor league team is named the Montgomery Biscuits.
Yes, the Montgomery Biscuits is a great and quirky team name but it is number two on our list because of their marketing tactics. The team’s marketing department is to blame for this unique team. They thought it would lead to unique marketing opportunities and boy were they right! The Montgomery Biscuit’s team store is called ‘the biscuit basket’ and fans are often heard chanting “hey butter, butter” instead of the traditional “hey batter” chant. However, possibly the best part about the Montgomery Biscuits is that to get fans on their feet during games they shoot biscuits out of air cannons! The marketing department knew what they were doing when they picked the name!
With such a unique name and marketing strategy the Montgomery Biscuits want to show off wherever they go. Even when on the road for away games. With Inflatable Design Group’s vendor tent package they can do just that!
The Montgomery Biscuits know that their organization’s brand and voice are the most impactful when participants can see and experience it themselves. That’s why they customized their own branded vendor tent, tent background, and tablecloths. Vendor tents are a great way to maximize visibility at away games while also providing shelter and creating a professional look for your organization’s booth.
1. New Orleans Baby Cakes custom inflatables
Drum roll please!
Although this team has since relocated and rebranded, our number one spot for teams with the quirkiest names goes to… the New Orleans Baby Cakes! Like many teams we have discussed, this name was selected from a name-the-team contest. Most sports fans can agree that when they think of intimidating two words that do not come to mind are baby and cake. This is probably why so many people hated the name of this minor league team.
When people think of New Orleans they often think of Mardi Gras. King cakes are a big part of Mardi Gras and often a small plastic baby is placed inside the cake. Whoever gets the baby in their cake wins a prize. The team’s name Baby Cakes is a play on this. Why did the team not just choose New Orleans King Cakes as their name? We may never know. As part of the team’s marketing strategy, all babies born in Louisiana in 2017 were given a lifetime pass to New Orleans Baby Cakes games. Too bad the team was only around from 2017 to 2019.
Even though fans hated the name New Orleans Baby Cakes that did not stop them from attending games. To provide fans with a warm welcome to the ballpark, the Baby Cakes worked with IDG to customize their very own giant inflatable couch! Complete with the team’s colors and logo, the customized inflatable couch was a great way to not only show off the team’s unique brand but also provided fans with a wonderful photo opportunity!
